Three Ducks on a Stick

Day 13 - Three Ducks on a Stick

Day 13 – Three Ducks on a Stick

My photo subject search took me back out to the neighborhood lake today. From my first vantage point, I thought I was out of luck, I could see a few seagulls floating out in the middle of the lake. Yes, I said seagulls. The only problem was, they were so far away, there really was not much to see.

I went to the other end of the lake and found these three ducks hanging out on a stick at the edge of the water. They got a little nervous when I started taking pictures. I took one step too far and they hopped in the water and swam away.

More Pansies

Day 12 -More Pansies

Day 12 – More Pansies

I set out today with a plan to take pictures of some of the birds that frequent my yard just before sunset each evening. Of course not one bird cooperated with me. The cardinals saw me and flew away before I could snap a photo, the robins that had been coming the last few days were no where to be found. The one or two birds I was able to capture were so far off in the distance they just did really make the photo worthwhile.

So here we are with another picture of flowers. These pansies are in a box hanging on my deck, at least they could not fly away!

Rainy Day in Durham

Day 11 - Rainy Day in Durham

Day 11 – Rainy Day in Durham

Today I decided to give creating a panoramic image a try. It was raining again and I do prefer to stay relatively dry so I found a good vantage point in a parking deck. I was able to capture several recognizable Durham landmarks. A couple of my favorite “Durham places” are there on the left, DPAC and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park behind it a bit in the distance.

Lights on the Waterfront

Day 10 – Lights on the Waterfront

I just could not resist posting another picture from last week’s trip to Wilmington. All of the trees in this waterfront park area were decorated with Christmas lights. The effect was beautiful. I am so glad that I took those few minutes to wander before heading home.

Posing with “Cuddly Ball”

Day 9 – Posing with “Cuddly Ball”

It was one of those dark and kind of dreary days around here. Not really pouring down rain, just wet. That inspiration to go out to look for the perfect shot was no where to be found. No worries, my little fuzzy model to the rescue. Always happy to pose for the camera, Tobi held on to his favorite toy and smiled.

Hanging on to Christmas

Day 8 - Hanging On to Christmas

Day 8 – Hanging On to Christmas

I love to decorate for Christmas each year but I despise packing up the decorations when Christmas is over. Today was the day to finally put the yard critters away until at least late November. Here’s one last shot of them before they were boxed up.

USS North Carolina at Sunset

Day 5 – USS North Carolina at Sunset

I spent this gorgeous January day with friends at Wrightsville Beach and  in Wilmington.  Just before I left for home, I drove down to the Wilmington riverfront and caught this picture of the battleship USS North Carolina as the colors from sunset were changing over to the darkness of night.

Moon Rise

Day 4 - Moon Rise

Day 4 – Moon Rise

As I set out to look for photo subjects today, I noticed the moon was just rising above the pines. The sky was such a beautiful blue and the trees were soaking in the afternoon sun. I quickly decided this was the shot of the day. ( I had already scared the squirrel that was in the yard anyway.)

Shivering Pansies

Day 3 - Shivering Pansies

Day 3 – Shivering Pansies

Our first real “Arctic Blast” of the season has arrived. The wind is bone-chilling. As I looked around for a photo subject, I noticed the pansies that I planted in the mild days of Fall now seemed to be shivering as they looked to the sun for warmth.

Reflections

Day 2 – Reflections

I ventured out to the neighborhood lake as the sun was going down, and caught some nice cloud reflections on the water. The geese were all coming in for the night as well so that added a nice touch as well.

On Watch

On Watch

Day 1 – “On Watch”

This afternoon I caught my Tobi, left, along with Brandy, my sister’s cocker spaniel, on patrol looking over the back yard. Brandy, was visiting us while her family traveled this weekend.

You can never tell just how these two pups will get along on any given day, sometimes they really seem to like one another while at others they appear to simply tolerate the others presence. Today they seemed to really enjoy teaming up to get the neighbors’ dogs worked up into a barking frenzy. Of course, both looked totally innocent when I called them inside.

Photography Challenge for 2012

This year I am taking on the challenge of posting one photo per day. Since this is Leap Year that is 366 photos in all.

Some of the pictures here will be part of larger projects I am working on while others will just be something random from my day.

I hope  you enjoy the photos. As always, I welcome your thoughts and comments.
